- Headline: In this session, the students will be introduced to the Italian language. We will go over basic greetings and general vocabulary in Italian, as well as some Italian culture. I will also discuss briefly my teaching methods and what to expect in this course.
- Description: Although I call it a beginner's course, this Italian course can be beneficial to anyone interested in the Italian language. This course can help beginners get started with Italian, but it can also strengthen the skills of more experienced speakers.
In this course, there is a heavy emphasis on speaking. That is because speaking is the tool that most essential to learning a new language. There is practice with reading, writing, and listening as well, but the main emphasis is on speaking. I have found that focusing on speaking is the quickest way for a beginner to become proficient in a new language.
As with any beginner's course, the first lessons revolve around simple sayings and greetings such as "How are you?" or "Good Night" as well as general pronunciation. Throughout the course, we cover more advanced grammatical topics including: regular verbs in the present tense (-are, -ere, -ire), useful irregular verbs (stare, fare, andare, etc.), adjective agreement, articles, negation, prepositions, the near-future tense, and much more. Although this may sound like a lot of grammar, I try to spice it up and make it interesting and easy-to-follow.
We also practice a lot of vocabulary. Some of the subjects discussed in this course include pets, food, family, clothes, and school/work.
In addition to its use of Examville, this course also used Engrade.com to help the students keep track of their progress and where their strengths and weak points are.
This Beginner's Italian Course is seven weeks long, with a total of fourteen hours in the Examville learning environment. - Duration: 120 mins
